Open Play
The Open Play League (OPL) is designed to get all the Gaming Club Network (GCN) Clubs out and about playing fun games against other GCN Clubs around the country.
| Position | Club | Home | Away | Neutral | Win | Loss | Draw | Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Oxford Gaming Club | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 5 |
| 2 | The Sad Muppet Society | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 1 |
| 3 | GCN Council | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
This involves playing/organising fixtures against other GCN Clubs over the course of the OPL Season each year. The results from each fixture will be collected in and posted on the GCN website for all to see during the course of the season.
The Season
The Open Play League runs over the course of 12 months to allow everyone the chance to take part. Normally this will run from January until December, with the Finals for the previous year normally taking place in January.
The Open Play League is open to all member clubs, including any clubs that join the GCN after the start of the OPL Season.
Fixtures
A Fixture is when two GCN Clubs arrange to play games using any given system or systems with three (or more) players from each Club. ie you don.t all have to play the same system, this is a change from previous years.
The Fixture can be Home, Away or Neutral.
- Home is where your GCN Club normally meets on a club night, ie your home venue.
- Away is any other GCN Club venue, ie the other club.s home venue.
- Neutral is a venue that is not the home venue of any of the competing clubs.
Each GCN Club can play another Club up to a maximum of three times during a season, Home, Away and at a Neutral venue.
Please note: Although more than two clubs can be involved in a set of fixtures at the same event (which can easily happen at OPL events), individual fixtures are always reports between two clubs.
Scoring
Once the results of a fixture are reported in (see Reporting Results), clubs are awarded points in the Open Play League according to the overall result. These are:
- 5 points for a Win
- 3 points for a Draw
- 1 point for a Loss
In this system it is entirely possible for a club that losses lots of OPL fixtures can do better than a club that wins only a few, so playing always counts for something!
At the end of the season the top four (or more) GCN Clubs will be invited to attend the Grand Final to duke it out for the OPL Trophy (or trophies). In case of a tie, the number of Away games will be counted, then number of Wins.
Reporting Results
After each Fixture the results are sent to the OPL Manager (opl@gamingclubnetwork.org) using the OPL Fixture Record Form. These will then be used for entry on the GCN web-site and to update the League table. Current League standings will also be shown in the GCN Newsletter.
Please note: Player names are only used for managing the OPL system and no personal information is held in regards to the league scoring. Only club level results will be displayed on the website and newsletter.
