Genshin Impact Receives Most Successful Global Launch

Genshin Impact was launched by miHoYo on September 28, 2020. Even though it was only released a few days ago, Genshin Impact has managed to become the 2nd largest revenue-generating app on the App Store, according to data from tracking company Qimai Data. The only app that beat the game is Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok. When this article was written, Qimai estimates that Genshin Impact has received US $ 1.84 million from iOS users.


Genshin Impact’s success isn’t limited to mobile. Apart from mobile, the game was also released for PC and Sony PlayStation 4. In China, the number of gamers who registered before Genshin Impact was released reached 16 million people. Meanwhile, outside of China, there are 5.3 million gamers who pre-register. When compared to other Chinese games, Genshin Impact has the highest pre-registration numbers.


According to Serkan Toto, CEO, Kantan Games, a gaming industry consulting company, Genshin Impact is the Chinese game with the most successful global launch to date. “I think no other Chinese game has managed to get as many pre-registration numbers as Genshin Impact outside of the local market. So, looking at the number of people who registered before the game was launched, Genshin Impact has been a success, ”said Toto, according to a report by the South China Morning Post.



Gamers’ interest in Genshin Impact can also be seen from the number of people watching the game content. Only a few hours after Genshin Imapct was launched, there were 110 thousand people watching the game’s content on Twitch. The number of concurrent viewers from Genshin Impact even beat Fortnite from Epic Games.


No wonder Genshin Impact is so successful. To local media, miHoYo Co-founder, Liu Wei revealed that they prepared more than US $ 100 million for the development and marketing of Genshin Impact. In comparison, the funding to make a Hollywood film like Mulan is US $ 200 million. However, the launch of Genshin Impact is not free from problems. Prior to its release, the game was deemed too similar to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.


Founded in 2012, miHoYo has launched a number of popular games. According to app tracking company Sensor Tower, all miHoYo games – including Honkai Impact 3rd – have been downloaded 40 million times and made US $ 760 million.
